SSNIT PENSION SCHEME TRANSPARENT LACK TRANSPARENCY

Human Resource Manager, Registrar General, Mr. Ken Ampadu Akuamoah , who has been working at the office of the Registrar General department for four years now has shared his knowledge on the SSNIT Pension Scheme and how transparent it is. He explained that the SSNIT pension scheme is available for both public and private workers.

According to him, upon receiving his pay slip every month, there's an indication that an amount of money or percentage has been taken by SSNIT, but the exact amount taken is not shown. Which leaves him unaware of the percentage or specific amount of money that SSNIT deducts from his salary which makes him also not pay attention on whether it has been taken or not.

He stated how he has heard people after retirement chasing SSNIT for their monies though he has not experienced that yet because he is still at the office.

He then again stated that in as much as he is unaware of the amount taken, he would definitely save for his pension at SSNIT even if he is self-employed because he's aware of its long-term benefits for an individual during retirement.

Which is because he is much educated on its benefits to the beneficiaries.

Despite all this, Mr. Ken still believes that the SSNIT pension is transparent even though he invests in other Insurance Companies towards his retirement.

"I believe anything can be improved upon and so is SSNIT". Those were his last words saying SSNIT can put in measures to counter challenges retirees face with them.

DO PUBLIC WORKERS KNOW HOW PENSION CONTRIBUTIONS WORK?

By Agnes Francess Fynn Ocran Public school teacher, Mr. Nicolas Adu Boahene said in an interview with UniMAC-IJ student, who is also a member of the SSNIT Civic Voice that 17% of his salary is deducted on a monthly basis to settle his SSNIT contribution. He said this after he was asked the percentage of his salary taken to settle his SSNIT contribution.  This is untrue because 13.5% of his salary is deducted, and not the 17%.  His statement proves that some public sector worker don't know the exact amount taken for their SSNIT contribution. If workers don't know the percentage of their salary taken to settle SSNIT, it will be easy for them to jump to conclusions in case of any irregularities.
